MCPHERSON, Kansas – A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter from the Kansas National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation was involved in a non-injury training accident at the McPherson airport last night.

According to Maj. Joshua Urban, battalion administrative officer, the helicopter, carrying a crew of four, made a hard landing at approximately 11:54 p.m. during a standard night-training exercise on the runway of the McPherson airport. There were no injuries, but the helicopter sustained damage that made it unable to fly.

One of the helicopter blades was damaged along with the tail rotor drive shaft.

The helicopter will stay at the McPherson airport until it is driven back to Topeka on a truck between Friday and Monday.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
