Tornado near Nickerson rated an EF-3

WICHITA, Kansas – The National Weather Service has rated the tornado that hit east of Nickerson as an EF-3 with peak winds at 165 mph.

The tornado was on the ground 5.3 miles and was 350 yards wide.

The storm damaged at least two homes, but no injuries were reported. One home may be a total loss, and another sustained damage to a roof and garage. Authorities also said two roads were closed in Reno County because of tornado damage.

Todd Strain with Reno County Emergency Management says power lines were also down. Tornado sirens failed to go off in Nickerson as a tornado hit the area. The sirens had passed a weekly test.

Strain said sections of Reno County received up to 3 inches of rain.

Video above was taken by a Reno County deputy who said it was slow moving and he had a clear path away from it.
