WICHITA, Kan. – A video of a fight between two 12-year-old girls has police looking for one of the girls involved.
Wichita Police say the incident occurred at the Roller City skating rink in the 3200 block of S. Meridian about 10:15 Friday night.
We spoke with the manager of the skating rink. She didn’t want to be on camera, but she did tell us this is very upsetting.
“People are going to think this is the place to come to fight and it’s not,” said the manager.
She says she knew nothing about a fight that took place in the back of her building Friday night.
“Their parents need to talk to them. Everything you do in life has an action and a reaction and it has consequences,” the manager said.
Extremely serious consequences. The Wichita Police Department says a woman called police after seeing the video on Facebook.
“During the fight, one of the 12-year-old’s, who’s listed as our suspect, was hitting and kicking another 12-year-old female about the head until she lost consciousness,” said Sgt. Brian Sigman.
The video was posted by another 12-year-old. Signman says they checked on the girl, who is doing “fine”, but the other girl could face a serious charge.
“The suspect, the 12-year-old suspect now has a felony pick-up issued for her arrest for aggravated battery,” Sigman said.
The manager of Roller City would like to see more parents talk to their children about situations like this.
“They fight and they’ll be best friends tomorrow, but they need to think about the things that they do before they make stupid decisions that could affect them for the rest of their lives,” said the manager.
Sigman says after officers viewed the video, they collected it as evidence. “The video is excellent evidence,” said Sigman. He says they took photos of the victim, which they’ll also use as evidence in the case. Sigman believes this fight never would have been reported if someone, unrelated to the incident, hadn’t of saw the video.
