Wichita man sentenced to prison for stabbing death of his stepson

WICHITA, Kan. – A Wichita man has been sentenced to prison for the stabbing death of his adult stepson nearly 5 years ago.

In a news release, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said 59-year-old Charles Williams, 59 of Wichita, was sentenced to thirty-six-and-one-half years in prison.

Bennett said twenty-seven-year-old Donald Carter of Wichita died in Williams’ home in the 1500 block of S. Hydraulic on August 2, 2010. Williams was found guilty at an earlier jury trial, but that conviction was overturned on appeal.

A Sedgwick County jury again convicted Williams of the same charge on April 28 of this year.

A medical examiner testified Carter died of a stab wound to the chest that punctured a blood vessel to his heart.

District Court Judge David Kaufman heard the second jury trial and imposed the sentence Friday morning.
