WICHITA, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Transportation reports repair work will begin on the westbound lanes of the U.S. Highway 54 roadway that crosses over West Street beginning on Sunday night, July 12.
K-DOT says drivers should expect lane closures in temporary work zones in the evening and overnight hours to eliminate impacts to heavy daytime traffic.
In a news release, K-DOT says the road work will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday night and continue during the overnight hours each night on Sundays through Thursdays. During the construction hours, one lane of westbound Kellogg will be closed at 7:00 p.m.with a second lane closed at 9:00 p.m.each night.. All lanes will be reopened by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
K-DOT reported during daylight hours, metal plates will be attached to the bridge deck ends that will allow traffic to use all of the lanes when crews are not working on the expansion joints.
All construction is scheduled to be completed in late August, depending on the weather.
