2.8 magnitude earthquake near Cheney

CHENEY, Kansas – A 2.8 magnitude earthquake was felt early Friday morning according to the United States Geological Survey.

It happened about one mile southeast of Cheney in western Sedgwick County.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not likely from earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
