WICHITA, Kansas – A man has been sentenced to prison for the rape of a 15-year-old girl.

In a news release, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said 24-year-old Dequalyn Shaffer of Wichita was sentenced to 52 years in prison on one count of rape.

The release said the teenage victim was attacked on North Kansas in Wichita on January 20th, 2013 after Shaffer offered to take her home from a friend’s house.

During sentencing Wednesday District Court Judge Joe Kisner told Shaffer, “The PSI (Pre-Sentence Investigation report) doesn’t lie. You have decided to be a violent guy and that doesn’t leave me a whole lot of choices here because I can’t take the chance that you’re going to hurt somebody else.”

Before sentencing the man to 620 months in prison, Judge Kisner said, “Assuming this conviction stands up, I’ll be dead and gone before he (Shaffer) gets out of prison. And, unfortunately, a lot of his loved ones are going to be dead and gone, but that’s what is called for here.”
