WICHITA, Kan. – A man with a box cutter caused a disturbance in Riverside Park about 1:30 Saturday afternoon.
Wichita Police say a a 29-year-old woman told them at the scene a man had approached her and threatened to harm her before walking off and confronting two men who were part of a group of people who were nearby.
Shortly afterwards, Wichita police officers arrived and took the man into custody. The 55-year-old suspect was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple battery, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.
Police say the man had previously been convicted on felony weapons violations.
The arresting officers say when the man was taken to the Sedgwick County jail he spat in their faces and kicked one of them in the leg..
That conduct, said police, led to an additional charge of battery of a law enforcement officer.
