WICHITA, Kansas – The city of Wichita is one step closer to having 70 miles of biking and walking paths within the city.
Wednesday evening phase 1 of the Schweiter Bikeway was unveiled.
The new, 2.5 mile bikeway includes marked and shared lanes, which also be connected to other bike paths across the city.
“It connects four existing bikeways over the Wichita bicycle network, it helps implement the 10 year Wichita Bicycle Master Plan,” said Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell.
About 50 cyclists of all ages came out to try out the new bike path themselves.
Jeff Miller says he gets on his bicycle several times a week and has since he was a kid.
He says he was impressed by the new path and the city’s effort to expand.
“I think any good city needs lots of cycling trails and lots of ways to get around, besides the major thoroughfares,” said Miller.
