WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita Police were called to the scene of a reported robbery at an east Wichita fast-food restaurant late Wednesday night.

The incident happened at the Burger King in the 500 block of N. Oliver around 9:45 p.m.

Officers at the scene said police were nearby when they responded to the call. They say the robber fled on a bicycle, but for some reason fell off the bike a short time later.

Police say several people from the Burger King pursued the suspect into the street. As he crossed Oliver, witnesses at a nearby pharmacy reported he fired a shot into the air. No one was struck by the bullet.

Officers set up a perimeter around the restaurant and began searching the area.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, wearing dark clothing. Police say he apparently dropped some of the cash he stole as he was fleeing.

The investigation into the incident continues.
