WICHITA, Kanasas – The Sedgwick County Household Hazardous Waste program Saturday hosted a household hazardous materials drop-off site at the Beechcraft parking lot on E. Central in Wichita.
Officials believe more than 400 people rolled through the drop-off site Saturday.
The collection of the material is important since t prevents hazardous waste that could end up in the area’s normal waste stream.
Sedgwick County residents have been bringing items such as paint, aerosols, batteries, used motor fluids, lawn and garden chemicals, household cleaners, fluorescent light bulbs, and more to the collection free of charge for recycling or proper disposal.
Twenty-five volunteers worked to collect the 11th annual event.
In 2014, more than 50,000 pounds of household hazardous waste was collected.
