Trampoline tragedy: Truck strikes boys

DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO) — The skid marks by the broken fence in a Des Moines, Iowa neighborhood tell the tale.

Police say 44-year-old Guadalupe Villa lost control of his pickup truck, slammed into an SUV, hopped the curb and broke through a fence, slamming into a trampoline with two small boys playing on it. The truck dragged the trampoline and the boys into a drainage ditch.

The older boy, 6-year-old Irving Aguilar-Gonzalez, was killed.

Antoinette McCalebb saw the whole thing.

“I could hear the tires squeal and then I heard a boom, then I heard another boom. Then there was another one and as I got out of my truck he was just getting in the ravine,” McCalebb said. “I think he was just dazed because he just sat there for a minute. He was just dazed. Then he got out and he was trying to lift the truck. He was literally trying to lift it and I think he was just dazed.”
