WICHITA, Kansas – With the state’s top 16 runners competing, Winfield’s Riley Osen took first place in the 4A 3200 on Friday at Cessna Stadim. Finishing in 9:43.98 he earned his second straight State title in the event.
Osen finished over six seconds faster than his closest competitor George Letner of Baldwin.
Remaining one of the area’s top competitors to beat, the Winfield junior set the meet record last year with a time of 9:26.71.
He told KSN, “It was a completely different race than a year ago. Last year it was kind of tactical, but it was faster. And this year, with a mile to go, I just took over. It was easier because I didn’t have to go all out for the last three laps. It means a lot just knowing that I can probably race against anyone and at least have a chance against them.”
Already winning a 1st place medal on Friday at the State Track and Field Championships, Osen plans to compete in the mile run on Saturday.
