LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say an Idaho woman who was having an affair orchestrated a gruesome Las Vegas hatchet attack that left her husband dead with his head nearly severed while they were on a family trip on Memorial Day.

Authorities say 33-year-old Maria Hernandez of Idaho, and her brother, 22-year-old Hector Gutierrez of California, face charges of murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.

Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Enrique Hernandez.

Originally reported as a carjacking, police say Hernandez held down her husband as her brother fatally struck the man in the neck while they were on the side of a road in the planned attack.
