Hutchinson convenience store owner busted in sting operation

HUTCHINSON, Kansas – The owner of a Hutchinson convenience store was arrested Friday following an investigation by the Hutchinson Police Department.

Investigators say Chetankumar Parvinkumar Patel, also known as Chris Patel was allegedly buying what he believed to be stolen goods from a member of the Kroger Corporation’s organized retail crime unit.

Hutchinson Police Lt. M.J. Robinson said in a news release some of the goods were for human consumption, and that they were placed for sale to the public on the shelves of Patel’s store, Zip Trip, located in the 200 block of E. Avenue A.

During a warrant search of the business, police said they found some of the stolen goods as well as 162 grams of K2 and 14 grams of Marijuana.  K2 is a common form of synthetic marijuana.

Patel was arrested for possession of Marijuana, Possession of K2 with intent to sell within 1000 feet of a school, a federal tax stamp violation, four counts felony theft/possession of stolen property, and one count of misdemeanor theft/possession of stolen property.

Patel remains in the Reno County Jail with a bond of $11,000.
