OKLAHOMA CITY (MEDIA GENERAL) – Word to the wise, don’t be a jerk on social media. An Oklahoma City resident is learning that lesson the hard way this week, and his cousin is the teacher.
A customer at Joe’s Crab Shack last week did not leave a tip with his bill, which totaled $71.23, after he claimed the restaurant was out of sour cream. The customer then posted a picture of the receipt to Facebook, with “find sour cream” penciled in the tip line.
The customer’s cousin, Dustin Clark, of Oklahoma City, saw the post and confronted him.
“I confronted my cousin about them bragging about the rudeness on Facebook,” Dustin Clark said as he re-posted the image of the tipless receipt. “I don’t believe that is right.”
According to Clark, his cousin’s only reasoning for not giving a tip was, “They had sour cream last time we ate there.”
The next day, Clark wrote that he went to the restaurant, met the waitress and gave her a card and a $20 tip.
“She seemed like the nicest person in the world, like one of those super nice waitresses that is nice, bubbly and energetic and makes sure everything is perfect,” Clark wrote.
The story gained local attention Wednesday and went viral.
Clark said he is a little overwhelmed by the amount of attention his act of kindness has attracted, to the point where he said he is “taking a break from Facebook” for a little while.
Since the story has gained attention, the unnamed customer took the post down from Facebook. He and Clark no longer are Facebook friends.
