Man arrested for contracting scam in Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police arrested a Texas man in his mid 30s for a contracting scam in the area.

Police said they started finding out about the scam after receiving several calls and a tip from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.

Apparently, the man was going door to door asking residents to do home repairs such as painting or fixing a driveway. One victim was from south Wichita, the others were located near Central and Maize. So far, five victims have come forward, but there may be more.

The contractor had received at least $10,000 to $12,000 in payments.

Police said he had been in town for about 45 days, and that he committed the crime in several other states.

The contractor is a man in his middle 30’s with sandy blonde hair. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Police say if you are suspicious, you should check with the Better Business Bureau at 1-800-856-2417.
