Cowley County man who escaped from custody found in Oklahoma

WICHITA, Kansas – The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office has located John Douglas Wooten. Wooten did not return to the jail after his court ordered furlough last week.

Sheriff’s deputies received information from a Kay County Sheriff’s deputy that Wooten was in the Newkirk, Oklahoma area.

Wooten was arrested and is being held pending extradition back to Kansas to face the original charges as well as a new charge of aggravated escape from custody.

Wooten’s prior charges include theft, forgery, making false information, bond violation and failure to appear.
