ELLIS, Kansas – The City of Ellis has been looking for a new water source for four years.
“I think it’s great, you know what else are you going to do if the people here don’t have water the town’s going to dry up,” said John Kolacny an Ellis Resident.
Ellis gets water from a few wells and from the Big Creek. The Big Creek is often dry, and the wells aren’t refilling as fast as they should.
“The aquifer that we are in will dry up eventually, and it’s time to find a different source for our municipality,” said David McDaniel the Mayor of Ellis.
The city has been doing test drills and has found usable water, but not at the quantity that the city needs. Ellis says they are making progress in finding a new well and hopes to find a new water source soon.
