WICHITA, Kansas – A 32-year-old woman has died after a shooting. It happened at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of West 20th in north Wichita.
A man at the home said he accidentally shot his wife while removing his gun from a holster. She has been identified as 32-year-old Rebecca Cambell.
“The 33-year-old husband informed officers that he was removing a gun, and the gun accidentally went off,” said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department. “We’re still trying to figure out how the gun actually was fired and what occurred.”
Police say a 5-year-old girl was in the the home. She is in custody with other family members.
Police say the man, identified from arrest sheets as Derek K. Campbell, was booked for involuntary manslaughter. Police are still investigating the case, and they say they have never been called to the home before.
