WICHITA, Kansas – The Shockers received a nice send off from their fans Wednesday as the team headed to Omaha for the NCAA tourney. Coach Gregg Marshall made sure the whole team was on the bus before it took off for the airport. When it finally rolled out, a good-sized crowd cheered on the team.
“Oh, it’s very exciting. It’s more exciting this year because we’re looking for the second matchup with KU and that’s been a while coming,” said Cletha Ponds, Wichita State University fan. “But, we can get them. Go Shocks!”
“I’ve been a fan of KU for a long time, but I like the Shockers a lot too. I’ll be excited for whoever wins. I wish the Shockers very good luck,” said Caden Miller, KU and Wichita State University fan.
“We are excited to be here today to watch the Shockers leave and head off. We wish them lots of luck. We are happy to see them go. We know they will do awesome,” said Rebekah Heinemann, Wichita State University fan.
Before Wichita State can play KU, both teams have to beat their opponents on Friday. If they do, the Shockers and the Jayhawks will play Sunday for a trip to the Sweet 16.
“Well, we’re looking forward to being in the NCAA tournament going to Omaha with the opportunity now to advance,” said Wichita State Coach Gregg Marshall, “So we’re excited, it’s a great opportunity for our program. We got some really good teams in this region.”
