Wichita, KS – Since the Affordable Care Act passed, seventeen states have refused to expand Medicaid which would allow them access to federal funds and Kansas is one of them.

The Sedgwick County Democratic Party is hoping to change that.

It’s organizing a road trip of sorts up to Topeka tomorrow where it will testify before the Health and Human Services Committee about the number of Kansans who’ve been denied health coverage.

Trip organizer Lori Lawrence says, “They need insurance, these people are working people. They are students, they have no way to get health care, they only get sick care and go to the emergency room.”

Governor Brownback says he doesn’t believe taking money from the federal government is fiscally responsible.
