WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police say a dog attacked a postal carrier Monday afternoon. It happened shortly after noon in the 2100 block of South Terrace.

Police say a pit bull ran through the screen door and attacked a postal carrier.

The 34-year-old postal carrier called 911 after the attack. Police say he suffered several injuries to his left hand and arm and had to have stitches.

The owner of the dog came out after being awakened by his wife to get the dog off the man.

The pit bull was taken to the Wichita Animal Shelter. There is no word on what will happen with it. According to police the dog will be kept for a few days. There will likely be a hearing unless the owner chooses to euthanize the dog.
