WICHITA, Kansas – Partners for Wichita and the Kansas Food Bank are preparing for their bi-annual “filling the Gap Lunches for Kids” program.

The community wide project is expected to distribute about 5,000 meals at 16 different locations with the help of hundreds of volunteers while students are on spring break.

The program starts Monday, March 16 and runs through Friday, March 20, 2015 serving lunches from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. to children 18 and under.

According to the Kansas Department of Education, 24 percent of children in our area are “food insecure”, meaning they’re without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food, and 77 percent of USD 259 students are on free or reduced lunches.
