WICHITA, Kansas (AP) — Ericka Mattingly scored 16 points to lead Wichita South to 56-48 win over Maize for the girls’ 6A state title Saturday.
Wichita South (23-2) because the first program to win three consecutive girls 6A titles lifted in this matchup by the scoring of Mattingly and Kirea Rogers who scored 11 points.
Keiryn Swenson led Maize (24-1) in scoring with 17 points.
Wichita South took advantage of a slow start by Maize, which began the game 0 for 12 on field goals and trailed by 11 points at the half. Maize did not score its first points until a shot by Daley Handy put one in with 2:57 left in the second quarter.
