Holcomb beats St. George 63-55 in boys 4A-2 title game

PARK CITY, Kan. (AP) — Connor VanCleave scored 21 points to lead Holcomb over St. George in a 63-55 victory in the boys 4A Division 2 state title game Saturday.

Leading by just 1 point at halftime, Holcomb (24-1) scored 20 fourth-quarter points to outpace St. George (23-2), which led by 3 points briefly in the second quarter.

St. George’s top-scorer Nate Berard put up 20 points and the team’s only 2 3-point shots. Holcomb only managed 2 3-pointers on 12 attempts.

Behind VanCleave, Christian Merz and Dalton Gottschalk got good production, scoring 14 and 13 points respectively. Trey Sleep also scored 12 points for Holcomb.
