Dry conditions elevate danger of grass fires

WICHITA, Kansas – With wind and dry grass, fires continue to be a challenge to fire departments across the metro area Sunday.

The Sedgwick County Fire Department is urging everyone to not do any burning right now, even if it is a controlled burn.

One grass fire started south of Wichita that took about 45 minutes for crews to contain.

“They activated their burn permit what appears to be the grass in their lagoon when the conditions changed abruptly the winds came up and the humidity dropped,” said Cpt. Robert Timmons with the Sedgwick County Fire Department.
