DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) — Brenna Eilert scored 23 points to drive Beloit-St. John over Moscow in a 45-35 win for the girls’ 1A-2 state title game.
Beloit-St. John (24-2) held the lead over top seeded Moscow 22-18 at the half and widened the gap in the second half.
Moscow (23-3) kept it close with 18 points off 3-pointers, three of which were sunk by Moscow’s leading-scorer Maria Cecenas, who finished with 14 points. Beloit-St. John made just 3 of 14 3-point attempts.
Moscow’s Morgan Robson brought needed relief from the bench, scoring 7 points from just 15 minutes on the court.
But, Beloit-St. John owned the paint, scoring 22 points up the middle compared to Moscow’s 10. Beloit-St. John girls also showed opportunism with 10 fast-break points and 9 steals.
