Derby student tests positive for whooping cough

DERBY, Kansas – A 6th grade Derby student has tested positive for whooping cough on Wednesday.

Parents of the students at the Derby Sixth Grade Center were notified via email and voicemail that a student had been diagnosed with pertussis.

The Sixth Grade Center is a separate building from the middle school.

Derby school officials also said that all upcoming 7th graders are required to get a TDAP booster.

The number of whooping cough cases has continued to rise, but at a much slower rate in the past week.
