YMCA announces CEO’s retirement

WICHITA, Kansas — Dennis Schoenebeck, a 40-year YMCA veteran who has served as the CEO of the Greater Wichita YMCA for nearly 25 years, informed to the Y’s Board of Directors of his intent to retire, effective January 1, 2016.

Schoenebeck retires as the longest-serving leader of the Wichita YMCA, during its 130-year history.

When Dennis Schoenebeck began leading the Greater Wichita YMCA in 1990, the Y operated with 135 employees on a budget of $1.8 million, consisting of three locations and one child care center that served 20,000 total participants each year.

The Greater Wichita YMCA now employs more than 1,400 people. It also serves more than 20,000 individuals every day, reaching nearly 50% of residents in the community. With more than 108,000 kids participating in 2014, the Y is also approaching its goal of serving 3 out of 4 kids in the community.
