WICHITA, Kansas – A fire Tuesday night heavily damaged a home in east Wichita. It broke out around 9:45 p.m. in the 200 block of South Green.
When fire crews arrived, the house was fully involved in the fire. Crews knocked down the fire on the exterior of the house before moving inside to fight the flames.
Both people inside the home made it out safely thanks to a dog making noise when the fire started.
“Both occupants were in the back of the home. They were awake,” said Battalion Chief Jim Wilson, Wichita Fire Department. “They were in the back of the house with the door closed. Their dog was making racket in the front of the house.”
One dog and two cats were missing after the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The American Red Cross responded to assist the victims of the fire.
