WHEELING, W.V. (WTOV) – Most people who have worked in the service industry know it can takes a few weeks to make $800, and as for the tips, every penny counts.
On Wednesday night when Alicia Torrance, a waitress at Ye Olde Alpha in Wheeling, West Virginia received an $800 tip on a credit card slip, she was more than grateful. It brought tears to her eyes.
“I was instantly in shock,” Torrance said.
Torrance had only met the couple once when they were in another time eating, but says the man was from out-of-town and she thinks he may have been trying to turn his day around.
“He had mentioned during the day that his grandfather had just passed away, and he was going home for the funeral and was having a bad day,” Torrance said.
