Teacher, students make viral ‘Uptown Funk’ video

A new video that has gone viral may have made Scot Pankey, the Director/Theatre Arts Teacher at A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School in Dallas, one of the coolest teachers ever.

According to Jonathan Vega, a student in one of Pankey’s class, his teacher “fell in love with the “Uptown Funk” song before Christmas break and came up with the idea of creating a dance video.”

With an initial goal of 800 views, students and parents began sharing the video with friends and family. Since it was posted just 5 days ago, the video has received more than 6 million views on YouTube.

“Bruno Mars, the person behind the “Uptown Funk” song, posted in his Twitter and Facebook,” Vegas said. “The school gained pride and everyone was happy. The Vice President’s wife tweeted the video and the first lady retweeted.”

Created in a single take, the video shows Pankey dancing around the school with his students to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ song “Uptown Funk.”

The video’s online description calls the performance “”a great example of how a bunch of technology students let go of their fears, trusted their teacher.”
