Topeka hotel shut down by state

TOPEKA, Kansas – The Kansas Department of Revenue shut down a Topeka hotel early Tuesday morning.

According to a spokeswoman for the department, the Candlewood Suites, owned by Reena Hotels, Inc. at 914 SW Henderson was closed and locked up by the department for failure to pay sales and transient guest taxes in the amount of $144,486.97.

KDOR employees and two Shawnee County Sheriff’s Officers were on hand to make sure all guests were out of their rooms by 7 a.m.

The spokeswoman said another hotel in Wyandotte County owned by the same group was also seized for non-payment of taxes.
