WICHITA, Kansas – School officials say a student brought a BB gun to Gordon Parks Academy on Thursday.
The student shot the gun causing a dent in the stall. There were no injuries.
The school didn’t find out about that until after another student told an adult.
“Staff received information that a student possibly had a BB gun, investigated it, and as the student was boarding a bus, it was determined that he did,” said Terri Moses, Safety Services Department, Wichita Public Schools.
Even though the district has seen a number of cases recently, for the school year, the number is no higher than any other year in the past.
Susan Arensman, USD 259 spokeswoman, says disciplinary action is being taken. Arensman adds the district has a zero tolerance police, and the incident is being treated as if it were a real gun.
