Garden City firefighter dies after training exercise

GARDEN CITY, Kansas – Garden City firefighter Ronnie Peek, 49, passed away Thursday evening.

According to a news release, Peek and his fellow firefighters were participating in scheduled department training at Labrador Station, 1605 West Mary Street, when he began experiencing difficulty breathing.

Peek was transported by Finney County EMS to St. Catherine Hospital where he passed away.

“Firefighter Ronnie Peek served our community for 16 years performing his duties with honor, passion and dedication,” said Fire Chief Allen Shelton. “Firefighter Peek will be greatly missed within the organization and community.”
