WICHITA, Kansas – A tip to Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County led to the arrest of a suspect in a double homicide in the 4800 block of E. Harry St. this past weekend. He has been identified by arrest records as Ishamael J. Bryant.
The information, which was received by Crime Stoppers on Monday via cell phone text message, identified a suspect in the case and his address, said Gordon Bassham, executive director of the Wichita Crime Commission. Crime Stoppers is a division of the Crime Commission.
“Thanks to quick and thorough work by our coordinators, the Wichita Police detectives handling the case, and officers from the Patrol North Bureau, a 29-year-old man was taken into custody Monday afternoon without incident,” said Bassham.
Following his arrest in the 800 block of N. Grove, the suspect was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on two counts of second degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of a felon in possession of a firearm.
Bassham said the suspect in the case was arrested only two hours after the tip was received. “That quick response by the Wichita Police Department clearly demonstrates the strength of their partnership with Crime Stoppers.”
The shooting outside the Place bar and grill early Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, left a 28-year-old and a 32-year-old man dead. Two other people were injured in the incident.
“This is another clear example of citizens stepping forward to help solve serious crimes in our community,” said Bassham.
The anonymous tipster in the case may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500.
