DERBY, Kansas – A big crowd of people who spent the night in the cold in derby got their reward early this morning.
Many people camped out to be the first in line for when the new Chick-fil-A restaurant opened today in Derby.
The first 100-people earned a year’s supply of free meals. The cold campers were happy when they finally got inside, but it wasn’t easy talking about it.
“It’s kind of hard to talk right now, my lips are kind of frozen.”
“Got here at 4:30 yesterday morning and it was windy as all get out,” said Steve Fry. “We had a fight with the wind on the tent. It was cold and at some point it started to rain, I mean snow.”
One camper who’s been to other Chick-fil-A openings says he went to one last year where the temperature was -20. He said this one was just about as bad.
The new restaurant is located at 1818 N. Rock Road and is part of the Derby Marketplace development.
Google maps has not added Chick-fil-A to the map, but this is the closest location to the restaurant.
