Suspect in Winfield bar shooting charged

WINFIELD, Kansas – A suspect in a fatal shooting at a bar in Winfield early New Year’s Day has now been charged.

On Monday, Timothy E. Boyd was charged with second-degree intentional murder, criminal use of firearm and discharge of a fireman.

Police allege Boyd and 32-year-old Derrick Higgins, got into an argument at the Hot Shotz bar which escalated into the shooting that left Higgins dead.

Police arrested Boyd around 9 a.m. January 1st without incident at a home in Winfield.

About 150 people were in the bar when the shooting happened and it was “chaos” after shots rang out.

The last murder in Winfield was six years ago.

Boyd’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 26th. His bond has been set at $500,000.
