Cops lend helping hand to NM shoplifter

ROSWELL, New Mexico (KOB) — A Roswell, New Mexico father faced a tough decision – to steal baby formula or let his child starve.

The 23-year-old was caught shoplifting Sunday morning from Albertson’s, and he told police he was just trying to feed his son.

What police did next surprised everyone.

“Everybody just kind of had that look on their face like, ‘we got to do something here,'” said Roswell officer Joe Mason. “I mean, it wasn’t like he was shoplifting liquor, he didn’t have any criminal intent. He wanted to feed his kid.”

Officer Mason says he and fellow officers Chris Bradley and Anthony Armijo, along with state police officer Arturo Alvarado, decided to help him instead.
