Hundreds of Wichita students get early Christmas presents

WICHITA, Kansas – Hundreds of Wichita students received some early Christmas presents.

More than 700 students at Colvin Elementary got to pick up a new pair of shoes, socks, a hat and gloves.

It was organized by volunteers with the Boeing Employees Community Fund, Hatman Jacks, Payless and Papa John’s.

“When you see these kids that need the shoes and socks, in such need, and they come and they put their shoes on and they don’t want to take them off, and they’re just so glad to get a brand new pair of shoes,” said Chrissie Nixon, retired Boeing volunteer.

She said that some of the students have never had a pair of new shoes until today.

The program also assists students at other schools and has been helping kids with clothes and shoes for the past nine years.
