“We want to do whatever we can, whenever we can, because we owe them way too much,” said Carol Danielson, co-chair for Adopt-a-vet. “It’s so heartwarming you would not believe, it’s so neat to sit and visit with them and watch them open their gifts, and just discuss you know what they do everyday.”

Along with giving veterans the needed things, like socks and shirts, the American Legion also wants to fill the items on those veteran’s wish lists.

“We wanted to do something besides the lets just send them some handkerchiefs and some socks and some t-shirts, so we actually asked if we could get a list from them of the things that they wanted, besides the normal,” said Danielson.

The community is getting into the spirit with donations already pouring in.

“We can’t give a lot or anything but when you do have something you know they can use, why not?” said donator Darlene Bugner. “I have a soft spot in my heart from veterans.”

You can stop by the Great Bend American Legion in Great Bend at any time to adopt a veteran, or donate items until December 10th. The map of the location is below.
