Charges filed in fatal northeast Wichita street racing crash

WICHITA, Kansas – Officials on Tuesday charged a 19-year-old man in a street racing crash.

The crash happened early Friday morning near 29th and Woodlawn in northeast Wichita.

When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had slammed into a tree and burst into flames.

“Some time during race, the vehicles touched, bumped or hit each other sending the victim’s car out of control and killing the victim,” added Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department.

The 23-year-old man, identified as Jordan Farber, died and an 18-year-old woman survived and went for help.

Police later that day arrested 19-year-old Darbin Matthew Tate. Tate made his first appearance in Sedgwick County Court. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
