WICHITA, Kansas – Four people were severely injured in a crash Tuesday morning at Pawnee and George Washington Boulevard in southeast Wichita.
According to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in around 8 a.m. about a stolen vehicle.
Both the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office were looking for it.
The victims of the car theft called 911 back after spotting the suspects getting out of their car and into a navy blue car.
A deputy found the car matching that description and initiated a traffic stop near George Washington and Oliver.
“After the light turned green, the deputy initiated traffic stop by turning on emergency equipment. Seconds later there was collision at intersection of Pawnee and George Washington Blvd,” said Lt. Lin Dehning, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
The original car that was believed to be stolen was found by law enforcement.
Officials say they’re not for sure whether or not the navy blue car involved in the accident was stolen.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is now investigating the collision while the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is looking closely at if the deputy followed pursuit protocols.
