Derby mother who reported possible child abduction recants accusations

DERBY, Kansas – The Derby Police Department has concluded its investigation of an attempted child abduction in the 200 block of east Kay St. on Oct. 1 and after a thorough review of physical evidence and interviews, the department has determined that the attempted abduction did not occur.

The reporting party recanted the initial accusations.

“We want to thank the public and media for their support and help in this case,” said Derby Police Chief Robert Lee. “However, we are no longer looking for the van or the suspect depicted in the composite.”
