Police: Shots fired at off-duty officer on I-70

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty St. Louis city police officer has been injured after shots were fired at his personal vehicle on Interstate 70, near the intersection with I-170.

Spokeswoman Schron Jackson with the City of St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says three suspects fired shots early Sunday into the 48-year-old officer’s vehicle and then fled in a black sedan. She says police have no reason to believe the incident was related to the earlier shooting of an officer in Ferguson.

Jackson says the officer was being treated at a hospital for injuries resulting from broken glass.

Police shut down all westbound lanes of I-70 during the investigation, causing traffic to back up.

St. Louis County police are investigating.
