Andover teacher facing sexual misconduct charges resigns

ANDOVER, Kansas — The Andover school district has accepted the resignation of Andover Middle School teacher Matthew Hobbs.

Andover schools reports that a long-term substitute has been placed in the classroom until a permanent replacement can be found.

Hobbs is facing charges of unlawful sexual relations after a former student came forward and reported that an affair involving “inappropriate touching and text messaging.” occurred over a five-month period several years ago according to Andover Police.

At the time of the alleged crime, Hobbs was reportedly an English teacher at the high school.

Hobbs made is first appearance in court Monday and entered a plea of “not guilty.” His preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 17th.

The Andover school district performs background checks on teachers prior to their hire.
