Gas line break forces Hutchinson road closure

HUTCHINSON, Kansas — The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a gas leak call at 12:38 p.m. Monday afternoon that forced the closure of 4th Avenue between Airport Road and Corey Road.

According to officials, units arrived at 330 block of East 4th Avenue to find gas spewing from a six-inch gas main.

Traffic was blocked from Corey to Airport Road. Officials report that a north wind blew the gas south across 4th Avenue into a vacant field. Businesses in the immediate area were monitored and no reading of gas was found.

Kansas Gas Service shut down the gas leak at 2:35 p.m.. As of 4:00 p.m., 4th Avenue was still closed off between Corey and Duffy while KGS crews repaired the line.
