Throne of terror: Killer wasp nest

WINTER HAVEN, Florida (WFLA) – A Winter Haven, Florida homeowner is working to remove a huge yellow jacket nest, before the wasps that live inside do any more harm.

The wasps built a massive nest on a reclining chair that’s stored outside a home.

The nest starts at one side of the recliner, extends behind it, and then onto the other side.

A cat that had jumped up onto the recliner to take a nap was attacked and killed by the yellow jackets, according to Tony Smarte, whose mother lives in the house.

“It’s huge,” he said. “I got chills up and down my spine.”

Smarte said he thinks the nest might also extend underneath the wood-framed home. He estimated the portion of the nest underneath the house could be up to two-thirds as large as the part attached to the chair.
