Woman injured in crash gives birth, dies

WICHITA, Kansas – One woman has died and five people were injured Tuesday night in a car accident in the southwest part of town.

The accident happened around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Meridian and Esthner.

Five people were taken to area hospitals where one woman, 21-year-old Trevadawn Pauley, died after giving birth to a baby girl.

The baby is in critical condition.

Another person was treated and released at the scene.

Police say a Mercury sedan was attempting to make a left hand turn in front of a Nissan SUV that was traveling southbound on Meridian.

The Nissan struck the Mercury.

Three people inside the Nissan, a 25-year-old man, a 46-year-old woman, and a 53-year-old man, were transported to the hospital.

There were four people inside the Mercury. It included the 21-year-old woman who died, a 17-year-old man who was suffered critical injuries and a 24-year-old man. The driver of the Mercury was treated at the scene.

Police say alcohol wasn’t involved in the accident.

Investigators say a small blue pickup could have witnessed the crash.
